This ending really really confuses me...

"Oh, look at these two: How they wish to destroy one another, how they wish to control one another, how they both wish to be free. Can you see, can you see how much they need one another? No, perhaps not. Sometimes, these things cannot be seen." The most interesting lines in the game to me.

One of the best endings in the game. It amazingly showcases the tragic irony of the Narrator's character. He constantly chastises and belittles the player for deviating from the story he wants to tell, wishing they were more like Stanley. Stanley wouldn't disobey him. Stanley would appreciate his story as a work of art in a way that the player simply couldn't understand. And here, the Narrator finally gets what he wants. With the player locked out, unable to ruin everything, he can finally tell his story. Just him and Stanley. But Stanley isn't real. He never was. Without the player, the story cannot exist. Without the player, the Narrator has no audience. With little effort, the Narrator's pride and ego is torn down, and he is faced with the truth. He is powerless. He is dependent. He is alone.

Tbh I don’t find him sadistic in this ending he sounds goofy. He started mocking me pushing the buttons even tho I was just ‘crouch’ dancing at the timer 💀

This is one of my favourite endings Sure it's simple, but Kevan Brighting did such an amazing job with the voice acting for this ending

How do you get to this

The narrator is kinda like AM from ihnmaims. He's cruel, sadistic and godlike sometimes but is ultimately at the mercy of the player who controls stanley.

“This is not a challenge. It’s a tragedy.” I don’t know HOW many people worked on this game, but the genius who wrote the script along with Kevan Brighting deserve some serious awards. Chills.

Favorite ending. Never been a huge fan of unhinged characters but MAN this reached some part of my soul

Kevan Brighting didn't need to deliver this badass of a monologue for a game that's meant to be amusing, but he certainly did, and I respect it. Especially with the killer music, this ending is probably the best in my opinion.

I’ve seen a lot of people in this comment section saying that this was intentional, but it wasn’t. This is an unfinished ending, one that never made it in, what you see here is what remains of the ending, not the full ending. That’s the reason there’s no narrator, this was something never meant to be seen by anyone. It is a husk of what it was going to be, now left in the code as a memory lost to time, like an abandoned building per say.

It's easy to get bored during this scene but it still takes center place in my head after years. It's not a positive message and pushes me into nihilism a bit but it still applies to so many things in my life

The narrator is definitely cruel and evil but isn’t Stanley also a bit immoral. Think about it, Stanley chose to try and gain control and assuming Stanley’s memory doesn’t remember the other endings. Stanley is definitely upset that he was enslaved essential but he was perfectly fine with doing it to his fellow worker and if this was in real life (and yes I know it’s just a game and not really questioning anybody morales) it would be a story about a man who betrayed his own coworkers just so he could be the one in charge.

I would pay good money to Kevan Brighting to have him make a lecture like this for Donald Trump...He used to be powerful and controlling, but is degenerating into a powerless madman, screaming on his social media, pushing every legal "button" in a vain attempt to stop the mounting evidence of his crimes, as the clock ticks ever closer to the end of his political career.
